Leyland Do You Give A Shit Now ?

Dice-K First comeplete game

The Sox beat the Tigers 7-1 in Dice-K’s first complete game of his MLB career. The Sox taxed the Tigers for 15 hits in the game and 4 runs in the eighth inning. I really don’t have much to say on this game but I will point out a concern. J.D. Drew had 3K’s in this Game…..3!!! This can’t happen especially when Trot is over on the Indians hitting up a storm. Look I know Drew is a talented player but we can’t have him breaking down and going into a drought this early in the season. Thats all I got for now. 8 Games up and counting …..Roger Who !

Lets Play Catch Up

Jays swept away

The Red Sox are on fire and arguably the best team in baseball. Calm down Brewer fans I am sipping some of your Kool-Aid. I think your story is great for baseball right now in light of all the controversies going on. Lets be honest here kids the Red Sox out right owned the Blue Jays this past week. It was almost to the point of being unfair and oh yeah I’ll mention it again we are doing it with our two biggest bats just starting to warm up. Yankee fans can say what they want but lets be real here they have a very outside chance of sniffing the playoffs and if they do it’s gonna be through the wild card and to be honest that may even pass them by because you almost have to expect the wild card team is gonna come out of that central division right ? I know the White Sox and the Twins are under achieving right now but the way they came on late last season leads me to believe it’s going to be the same this season. I just don’t think the Yankees have the pitching power to get them through the tough late season games when they are tight.

Dice-K seems to have found his control in Toronto. He still walked 3 but he didn’t have his normal 1 inning meltdown in the game so thats a positive. Look it’s going to take Dice-K an entire season to acclimate to this league not to mention pitching in Fenway Park. The same way it took Josh Beckett a year to get used to the American League and Fenway Park it has to be evident Dice-K will need the same acclimation timetable. All you baseball fans out there can say he’s a bust
he’s another Hideki Irabu ect , ect , but lets just put this in perspective. There were 2 big name Japanese pitcher signings in the off season Dice-K and Igawa ( Yankees ) Igawa is currently on the Yankees single A team so what does that tell you about who is the bust.

Red Sox played the first in a three game series against the O’s last night losing 6-3 . If Willy Mo Pena expects more playing time then he is gonna have to improve his fielding 100% because it’s awful. I know I was a big supporter of the sit Coco Let Willy play movement because of the Coco’s struggles at the plate but who knew that would me the circus would be in the outfield ? This guy needs to be in the outfield shagging fly balls during batting practice or something if he wants to see some more playing time.

Thats all I got for right now Sox are beating down the O’s right now 10-4

Sox Play Homerun Derby Win 7-6 And Sweep Yankees

Manny Ramirez

WOW ! Thats all I can really muster about the game tonight. I was supposed to go into work for some overtime tonight but something said stay home you already gave them 16hrs . So I stay home grab a seat on the couch to watch the game and began to put the hurting on a six pack of MGD……Hey I’m cutting back !

Tonight was the night everyone was really waiting for Dice-K’s first start against the hated Yankees at Fenway. How would he react ? Dice-K looked a little off kilter early in the game giving up early runs in the first and third innings. The Yankees were in this game most of the night even with the 4 count em 4 homers in a row by the Red Sox. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again ” The Yankees have NO PITCHING “. I’ve never heard of some of the guys they trotted out there this weekend. When you have to bring Andy Pettitte in to pitch an inning on Sunday after starting Friday thats a huge sign you have no pitching to include no bullpen.

Everyone was swinging a live bat tonight to include Pedroia……..Yeah Pedroia ! Everyone chipped in tonight one way or another. Weather it was Lugo getting walked 3 times or the homerun derby in the third inning everyone was putting the bat on the ball. Willy Mo went 0-FOR on the night with 3K’s. No biggie I say this is because of lack of at bats. We all know he’ll start sending them out on Lansdowne street in no time. The only problem with starting Willy is you sacrifice defense in the field. We’ll just have to see how everything turns out in center and at second. It’s a long season and we’re only in April.

Thats all I got for right now it was a great game 4 HOMERUNS !!!!

Tim Wakefield Delivers 7 Strong Sox Pound Angels 10-1

Tim Wakefield

Once again Captain AARP has delivered. Tim Wakefield basically gave me the finger tonight and went out and pitched seven inning 1 run ball. Yes I said it was time for the Sox to consider letting him go and now I will eat my crow and sing his praises for now. Tim Wakefield is great I’ll agree . He can eat innings , a fan favorite and an overall nice guy from my standpoint. All that being said they guy goes out and gives his team what every pitcher should do , a shot to win. If that is one thing the Sox will need this season it’s a pitcher that will eat up those innings until you get to the Papelbot.

Dougie Doug

The Sox put up a ten spot against an other wise decent pitcher in John Lackey. The scariest part about the offensive explosion was the six spot they put up in the 8th. Who puts up six runs in the eighth? Who wants to guess the saddest part of the offensive explosion ? For those of you keeping score at home and said Dougie Doug’s homer give yourself a slap on the back. Yeah Doug goes deep in what his ninth AB of the season and Tek is yet to go deep. Now don’t get me wrong Red Sox Nation in no way an I insinuating Dougie is a better player not by a long shot. I am just pointing out the fact Tek has 5 hits in 25 plate appearances and it looks like he’s swinging a wet newspaper. Other highlights of the game included J.D. Drew continuing to prover everyone wrong with 2hits and 2RBI’s , oh yeah he also had an outfield assist. Coco , What can we say about Coco ? Sure he runs everything down in the field but a .121 average at the plate ? Are you kidding me ? This guy better get it together or he’ll be doing those Hood Ice Cream commercials for a living full time. We just gave him an extension last season right ?

Next Game: Sat., April 14 @ 3:55 p.m. ET TV: FOX | Radio: WRKO 680, WROL (Sp.)

Hernandez Dominates Sox In Matsuzaka Fenway Debut Sox Lose 3-0

Well the day finally arrived. Red Sox Nation had been waiting for this day since they found out the Red Sox bid $51 million for Dice-K. I was unable to see the game live but once again Tivo was able to bail me out. Got home grabbed some grub and headed straight for the couch and put the game on.

Dice-K pitch to Ichiro

Now the most hyped match-up of the game was supposed to be Matsuzaka vs. Ichiro . I have to be completely honest here but I am surprised Ichiro even stepped into the batters box after the ass whooping Beckett handed him yseterday. So on the first pitch of the game Matsuzaka deals Ichiro a curveball strike and the flash bulbs  go crazy. Dice-K looked ok for the most part he went 7IP 3R 3ER 8H 1BB 4K’s and had a pitch count of 103. He seemed to start the game with alot of breaking stuff mixing in his fastball later in the game in fact he hit 97MPH at one point. On the other side Felix Hernandez was outstanding he shutdown the Red Sox bats all game until the 8th when J.D. Drew came through with a single to break up the no-no.

Few observations I made during the game. Dustin Pedroia is not going to have a successful career in a Red Sox uniform if he doesn’t learn how to hit a baseball. I am not even sure Pedroia’s parents gave him permission to join the team. I swear Pedroia and Eckstein have to be the only Keebler Elves in baseball. I would actually rather see Alex Cora out there on the the field. Joel Pinero needs to go ! Everyone was talking about how good hit heat was but he has no command , he’s throwing balls in dirt. John Lester is going to be the savior of this staff when he returns and they are say possibly May 1. How awesome would that be ?

Red Sox & Mariners lock up again tomorrow Thu., April 12 @ 4:05 p.m. ET  . Washburn vs. Wakefield. Hopefully we can get Timmy some run support this time.

Oh yeah how awesome is this picture :

Beckett Dominant in Home Opener Sox Dominate Mariners 14-3

 Fenway Opener

Another season has officially begun at the Historic Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox. Today was the 2007 home opener for the Red Sox in a game played against the Seattle Mariners. For those of you out there not from Boston or just don’t get it. Boston is it when it comes to the pageantry and history of opening days in baseball. If I were to attempt explaining it I would not being doing the day justice. I know it’s gonna sound cliche but do yourself a favor and try to get tickets to a Fenway opener before you die if you’re a fan of the game. You will not regret one minute of it if you do.

Josh Beckett So on to the game. Josh Beckett was on the hill for the Sox and for the Mariners it was newly acquired Jeff Weaver who all but gift wrapped the win for the Sox. Beckett looked dominating on the hill today he went 7IP 1ER 1R 8K’s. For all the crap Beckett gets in the media about being hard headed he seems to have figured it out this season. The thing that stood out most today about Beckett was his Curve. He’s finally decided that he has a nasty Uncle Charlie and does not need to blow everyone away with a 98MPH heater. Case in point Ichiro . Beckett had Ichiro diving out of the batters box(do yourself a favor and catch SportsCenter)  with that curve he had no clue what was coming.

JD Drews First Fenway Blast

The bats came alive today to the tune of 14 hits and 14 runs. Everyone was hitting even Tek got in on the action 3hits 3RBI’s . J.D. Drew got his first Fenway homer one of many ( yes I was a nay sayer and yes I am changing my tune on Drew atleast until he comes up with a lame injury then I will mail him some kevlar ) . Coco got a hit but I still say he has to go. I don’t believe he will ever amount to what the Sox were hoping he would. I have a theory on what the Sox should do to rectify the situation. They should try and trade him after the season it’s that simple. He’s only owed $15.5 million through 2009 and Andruw Jones is gonna be a free agent at the end of the season. The Sox can’t afford to let Jones go to the Yankees next season although it maybe highly unlikely because they have Damon in center but you can’t put it pass them to try.  Some will say the Sox can’t afford it and to them I say NAY ! We will be saying good bye to Clement , Dougie , Willy Mo , Tavarez ,Timlin and possibly Wakefield. In any event I think we will have some room to be flexible next off season , but hey lets not get ahead of ourselves we still have 156 games left.

Matsuzaka will be on the hill tomorrow making his Fenway debut. From what I hear Ichiro has been waiting for this day for something like 7yrs because Dice-K has owned him in Japan. Anyways kids it’s another day worthy of calling in sick to work. Grab some friends hop on the T head down to Kenmore SQ and get drunk on good beer and watch Dice-K mow’em down.

Dice-K Rings Up 10 In MLB Debut….. Thats 10k’s Haters !

Dice K

So the Dice-K era is off to a good start. I don’t want to toot my own horn but if you check my previous post I almost called his line for the day. Look I’ll say it right now ” I am not ready to give him the Cy Young award ” come on it is one game but you know what it’s the one game all the haters were saying he had to do all the amazing things he’s been hyped up to do and he showed and proved he belongs. First the haters say lets get him some MLB hitters then they say the Royals are a minor league team. Look there is no denying Dice-k’s talent you can’t deny it and we all know his biggest test will come later this month when the Yankees come to Fenway. This will go on all season even when he has 15 wins people will still say well he has to prove himself with some more ridiculous hurdles for him ….Uh he’s got to pitch in Fenway with a tiger chasing him around the infield I mean come on YANKEE FANS if he was in pin stripes your would be as excited as Red Sox Nation.

Overall the game went well Papelbon came in and sat 2 down for the save. The doubles where flying all over the place. Hey say what you want about Drew but if this guy stays healthy all season he is a legitimate candidate to challenge Papi for the RBI title . Who’s with me on that one ?

Tim Wakefield

Well the Sox will be traveling to Texas to play the Rangers and Timmy Wakifield will be getting his first start of the season. It will be interesting to see how Wakefield pitches after being injured last season. Timmy does not have to do to much for us this season. If we can get Lester back Timmy can go to the pen play long reliever and eat up innings which would be a huge help not to mention being in the bullpen with the youngsters keeping their minds right.
