Wow is there anything really to be said at this point ? The Red Sox are continuing to roll over everyone in their way without mercy. Over the weekend they swept the Texas Rangers in Texas to increase their lead in the east to 12.5 games. All of the haters out there can say it’s still early yadda, yadda but you know what the Yankees are not gonna catch the Sox. Look they are 12.5 games back and playing horrible baseball. The bullpen has been taxed to the max and that lineup full of all stars is not hitting the ball. To make matters worse for you Yankee fans is the wild card is a distant distant possibility at this point.
So what can we take from the Texas series ? Well lets see Manny is about to bust out on his routine year and Mike Lowell and Kevin Youkilis are continuing to produce at the plate. Toss in Coco playing some awesome defense in the field , Beckett coming off the DL and Pedroia gaining more confidence with every game and you got a team on a mission to take on and beat all comers.

The Boston Red Sox are the best late inning come from behind team in baseball hands down. The Sox scored 6 count em 6 runs in the bottom of the ninth to steal a win from the O’s who were up 5-0 going into the inning. If you would like to see proof of the late inning heroics check out this Link. The only other news of importance to come out of this game was Josh Beckett left the game in the fourth with a piece of skin hanging off the middle finger of his right hand. I am only hoping this is something minor and it won’t keep him out of his next start or longer.

The Red Sox are on fire and arguably the best team in baseball. Calm down Brewer fans I am sipping some of your Kool-Aid. I think your story is great for baseball right now in light of all the controversies going on. Lets be honest here kids the Red Sox out right owned the Blue Jays this past week. It was almost to the point of being unfair and oh yeah I’ll mention it again we are doing it with our two biggest bats just starting to warm up. Yankee fans can say what they want but lets be real here they have a very outside chance of sniffing the playoffs and if they do it’s gonna be through the wild card and to be honest that may even pass them by because you almost have to expect the wild card team is gonna come out of that central division right ? I know the White Sox and the Twins are under achieving right now but the way they came on late last season leads me to believe it’s going to be the same this season. I just don’t think the Yankees have the pitching power to get them through the tough late season games when they are tight.
Dice-K seems to have found his control in Toronto. He still walked 3 but he didn’t have his normal 1 inning meltdown in the game so thats a positive. Look it’s going to take Dice-K an entire season to acclimate to this league not to mention pitching in Fenway Park. The same way it took Josh Beckett a year to get used to the American League and Fenway Park it has to be evident Dice-K will need the same acclimation timetable. All you baseball fans out there can say he’s a bust
he’s another Hideki Irabu ect , ect , but lets just put this in perspective. There were 2 big name Japanese pitcher signings in the off season Dice-K and Igawa ( Yankees ) Igawa is currently on the Yankees single A team so what does that tell you about who is the bust.
Red Sox played the first in a three game series against the O’s last night losing 6-3 . If Willy Mo Pena expects more playing time then he is gonna have to improve his fielding 100% because it’s awful. I know I was a big supporter of the sit Coco Let Willy play movement because of the Coco’s struggles at the plate but who knew that would me the circus would be in the outfield ? This guy needs to be in the outfield shagging fly balls during batting practice or something if he wants to see some more playing time.
Thats all I got for right now Sox are beating down the O’s right now 10-4

If I told you at the end of last season to shake off Josh Beckett’s league leading 36 homers allowed because he’ll be 7-0 before the end of May next season you would tell me to lay off the Meth. We are witnessing the future of pitching in baseball evolve. Josh Beckett the young Texan fire baller won his 7th game of the season last night North of the Border in Toronto. Beckett went 7innings 1ER/R 5hits 1BB and 5K’s the earned run being a homer by Alex Rios on the very first pitch of the game. I’ve said it in earlier posts about Beckett he is finally using his other pitches effectively and not trying to blow everyone away with a 97MPH heater.
Beckett wasn’t the only story of the night for the Sox. The Red Sox bats came alive again with home runs from Youkilis , Lowell , Varitek , and Pedroia YEAH PEDROIA ! I’ll say it again to the non believers out there because it needs repeating…..THE RED SOX ARE DOING THIS WITH A COLD MANNY AND PAPI ! Can you just imagine the run support once those two get going ? Hats off to Francona for the job he is doing this season. Roger WHO !

He’s on fire baby ! Josh Beckett became the first pitcher in the league to get 6 wins on the season beating Oakland 6-4. This is a new Josh Beckett we are seeing. He’s still the gladiator but he is controlling his emotions more this season. Last season Beckett would seem to melt down the minute a call didn’t go his way or if he gave up a long ball. This season he is Mr. Cool under pressure. Beckett went 7 innings giving up 6hits 3R/ER 2BB and 7K’s. What is helping Beckett this season is the fact he’s realized he doesn’t have to throw flames every single pitch. Beckett has been throwing the curve with authority this season just freezing batters at the plate.

The Red Sox just keep on rolling getting their third win and series sweep against the Los Angeles Anaheim California ahh hell some team from California got spanked. Josh Beckett took the hill today and with the exception of drilling Vlad and giving up a dinger to Orlando Cabrera he looked dominant. Beckett went 6innings 1Run 1ER 1BB and 5K’s not bad for only 6 innings. I am guessing he probably could have went 9 but Tito had to get some work for the guys in the pen seeing as they have not been needed for the last 3 games. Okajima got some work in today and check out his line 1IP 2K’s no runs 9 pitches 8 for strikes. I think this guy is a welcomed change of pace to the bullpen and he’s a lefty.
In other news Willy Mo Pena got the start today and proceeded to strike out twice in 3 at bats ending the game 0-3. It’s nothing of concern seeing as he has not been getting anytime at the plate. We’ll have to see how and for how long this experiment last before another change is made.
The Sox are off to Toronto for 3 games before returning to the friendly confines of Fenway for a 3 game set against the Yankees. Now the Yankee series should show us alot about our pitching and offense. The Yankees starting rotation has been devastated by injuries so it’s gonna be interesting to see what they trot out to the mound. I’ll say it before I get inundated with emails yes the Yankees have a good line up and you can’t count them out. Ok are you happy now ? Now go check out the links on my blogroll.
Well the day finally arrived. Red Sox Nation had been waiting for this day since they found out the Red Sox bid $51 million for Dice-K. I was unable to see the game live but once again Tivo was able to bail me out. Got home grabbed some grub and headed straight for the couch and put the game on.
Now the most hyped match-up of the game was supposed to be Matsuzaka vs. Ichiro . I have to be completely honest here but I am surprised Ichiro even stepped into the batters box after the ass whooping Beckett handed him yseterday. So on the first pitch of the game Matsuzaka deals Ichiro a curveball strike and the flash bulbs go crazy. Dice-K looked ok for the most part he went 7IP 3R 3ER 8H 1BB 4K’s and had a pitch count of 103. He seemed to start the game with alot of breaking stuff mixing in his fastball later in the game in fact he hit 97MPH at one point. On the other side Felix Hernandez was outstanding he shutdown the Red Sox bats all game until the 8th when J.D. Drew came through with a single to break up the no-no.
Few observations I made during the game. Dustin Pedroia is not going to have a successful career in a Red Sox uniform if he doesn’t learn how to hit a baseball. I am not even sure Pedroia’s parents gave him permission to join the team. I swear Pedroia and Eckstein have to be the only Keebler Elves in baseball. I would actually rather see Alex Cora out there on the the field. Joel Pinero needs to go ! Everyone was talking about how good hit heat was but he has no command , he’s throwing balls in dirt. John Lester is going to be the savior of this staff when he returns and they are say possibly May 1. How awesome would that be ?
Red Sox & Mariners lock up again tomorrow Thu., April 12 @ 4:05 p.m. ET . Washburn vs. Wakefield. Hopefully we can get Timmy some run support this time.
Oh yeah how awesome is this picture :
